The site is in a highly accessible and sustainable location both in terms of local services and facilities (Sandy Park Road, Avonmeads Retail Park and the Paintworks etc), and connections to the City Centre on foot, bike and public transport.
Therefore, Sovereign’s strategy behind the design of the proposals from an access and movement point of view is about maximising the opportunities for walking, cycling and public transport, instead of relying on car based travel, as well as increasing permeability through the site.
The primary access for vehicles will remain to the rear of the site along Tramway Road, but pedestrians and cyclists will be able to enter and exit the site onto Bath Road, Tramway Road and via a new entrance at Belmont Road, through the existing wall, which provides easy access through to Sandy Park Road.
Based on census data, a total of 92 car parking spaces are proposed. The scheme will also include facilities for the charging of electric vehicles, to help to facilitate greener and cleaner car use.
Over 200 bicycle parking spaces will also be provided for residents and visitors, which reflects the increasing levels of bike ownership and cycle communting within Bristol.
A travel plan will be submitted as part of the planning application which will include a range of measures to incentivise walking, cycling and use of public transport, this may include vouchers towards the purchase of bikes for residents, bus discounts and car club offers.
The schedule of car and cycling spaces is as follows:
Block A: 42 parking spaces
Block B: 15 parkinmg spaces
Block C: 35 Parking spaces
Cycle Parking: 200 spaces across the site
