There is a qualitative and quantitative need for the proposed development. New facilities have opened at Nene Valley, Wellingborough (2016) and Great Glen, Leicester (2017). However, despite relieving pressure on the existing facilities at Warren Hill, Kettering, South Leicestershire and Gilrose, Leicester, these two new facilities have no effect on Peterborough, which is currently operating 30 minutes service slots, or on the underserved area of Corby and Rutland to the north, all of which currently lie beyond 30 minutes from an existing facility. The proposed crematorium will have a considerable relieving impact on Peterborough crematorium,so that it will have the opportunity to increase its service slot times in line with the ICC guidelines. The site at Corby presents an excellent opportunity to not only relieve existing facilities, but to also meet a significant underserved catchment, including bringing approximately 19,070 residents within a 30 minute drive from a crematorium for the first time.
