The proposed expansion of the hotel is ambitious and will also generate investment in the Burnham on Sea and Highbridge area. The intention is to create a range of new facilities to enhance The Grange Hotel as an important destination venue for the Brent Knoll area.
At the heart of the proposal there will be an Events and Banqueting Suite to accommodate weddings and conferences. The provision of hotel rooms will be increased in number and quality to support the Events and Banqueting Suite and will also include lodges for families and longer-term visitors. The development of the hotel includes provision of guest facilities including restaurants, café, leisure, and gymnasium facilities, which will also be open to residents.
As part of the Pre-Application process further consultations were held in January 2020. As a result of this meeting there was a review of the design and of the proposed accommodation for the hotel. The brief for the scheme was changed to place greater focus on the lodge accommodation and to include a smaller number of conventional hotel rooms. A Visitor Information Centre was added. The sketch image below shows the design development.
The restaurant, leisure and banqueting facilities remained at the core of the scheme with hotel guest accommodation changed to suit longer visits and/or short vacations.
The new hotel rooms, function suite and leisure facilities were identified as a distinct group away from the older buildings.
The area proposed for the larger new buildings is located at the lowest part of the site to minimise their prominence.
The access road is to be upgraded for safety and to provide a left turn filter lane to enable visiting traffic to slow down in safety. The entrance is to be more prominent and be clearly visible from the approach road.
Existing buildings are retained and extended providing good quality guest room accommodation.
The scheme includes an Information Centre for visitors to Brent Knoll with guidance for walkers.
There is a larger area of lodge rooms which will provide accommodation for families and dog walkers with greater openness and access to the countryside.
