Respecting the environment
Sustainability and respect for the environment will be an integral part of the design, build and operation of the proposed creamatoria.
The location of the chapel and the design and landscaping of the surrounding gardens aims to:
- Blending sustainable buildings in harmony with the existing environment, using the topography of the land
- Retention of existing trees and hedgerows with landscaping to provide both a screen and strong visual amenity for the surrounding environment
- Encouraging and preserving wildlife
- Respect the privacy of neighbours
- Create harmony between a peaceful, calm and restful environment for the deceased and a comforting, enriching and supportive experience for bereaved visitors
- Sophisticate filtration equipment and abatement systems to virtually eliminate emissions. Aiming to at least meet if not exceed the Defra Statutory Guidance for Crematoria emissions
- Utilise advanced technology to conserve energy. This can include the use of rainwater harvesting from gutters/downpipes, electrical sensors to control lighting, solar energy
- Re-use of energy created by the cremators to make the building more sustainable.
