The following considerations
Location
- The development is located to the north of Alveston and to the southwest of Thornbury and serves a local area.
- The site is located off Alveston Hill (B4061).
- The crematorium will be located near to the Memorial Woodlands.
- The Alveston village centre and Thornbury town centre are located within reasonable walking and cycling distance of the site.
- A Travel Plan will be provided for the site. This will provide a package of initiatives and measures that will aim to encourage sustainable travel to and from the site including walking, cycling, and public transport use for staff and visitors.
- The site is located with good connections to the motorway network including the M4 (J20), the M5 (J14 and J15) and the M48 (J1).
Access
- Access will be provided onto Alveston Hill (B4061) at two junction locations, thereby not passing through local residential streets.
- The site layout will consider the circulation and flow of mourning parties as part of the design.
- Footways will be provided at the access junctions and within the site in order to provide permeability.
- A Public Right of Way is located along the northern boundary of the site which is proposed to be retained and enhanced.
Public Transport
- The closest existing bus stops are located in Alveston on Down Road and Thornbury Road which are within walking distance of the site.
- Bus services from these bus stops are provided throughout the daytime.
Parking
- Cycle parking and motorcycle parking spaces are proposed on site.
- Car parking will be provided on site for staff and visitors. The number of spaces will be provided appropriately for the 400 seat crematorium and anticipated number of staff with reference to The Federation of British Crematorium Authorities (FBCA) guidelines.
- Accessible car parking for the disabled will be located near to the chapel entrance.
