Phase 1 - Low embodied energy family housing

A number of factors have influenced the design of the development, including the location of the M32, the direction of the sun and wind, and the existing buildings around the site. In additional, the Bristol City Council has identified the area as in need of family homes and starter housing.

Phase 1

The ten new family houses will be built using Modcell technology.  ModCell® is one of the first products to make large-scale, carbon-negative building a commercial reality. The system utilises the excellent thermal insulation qualities of straw bale construction to form prefabricated panels, creating super-insulated, high-performance, low energy ‘passive’ buildings. Each house will be provided with an off street parking space including potential electric charging points.

In discussion with Bristol City Council the PG Group intends to relocate the on street parking bays to the other side of the street adjacent to the cycling land and discuss how traffic calming measures can be introduced. The scheme will encourage residents to benefit from the local public transport infrastructure and walk and cycle to local amenities.

The rear of the new houses are between 19 meters and 20 meters from the rear of the existing houses in Thomas Street, as demonstrated on the plan below.
