Here is the latest update on the Carriageworks site developments. Can we also apologise on behalf of the company that delivered machinery to site before the formal start time yesterday. PG has expressed their disappointment and everything possible will be done to make sure this will not happen again.
- Block D - Affordable Housing block - foundations are now completed and ready for the main structure – this will provide 10 affordable housing apartments and 2 commercial spaces on the ground floor. Picture A shows this for those who don’t have a view of the site.
- Piling is now 90% completed, ready for the foundations to be laid on block A,B and C.
- Unfortunately works to remove the retaining wall in the ground are ongoing and slower than PG had hoped. It is anticipated these will continue through this week, and potentially in to next week as well. Site workers are still finding that the concrete is full of steel reinforcement which is causing incredibly slow working conditions. Because we know how the noise impacts on the local area, rather than complete removal, PGs site engineers have calculated in which areas they are able to leave the concrete in the ground to reduce impact on local residents. PG are keen to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible due to the impact on local residents. Picture B shows the depth and extra reinforcement found in the concrete.
- Obstructions in the ground – Continuing groundworks on Saturday the 17th October found an old tank potentially used for oil storage which meant that the area had to be excavated and made safe, unfortunately this will mean that works will have to take place on Sunday the 24th October to dig out the area and ensure that no remaining contamination or live utilities are remaining in the ground where it was found, as this will have to be done when there is no other people on site. Whilst we anticipate there to be some lower levels of noise from an excavator (Picture D below), this will not include works by the pecker (Picture B).
- Ending on a positive note, the substation housing is almost complete ready for us to bring the electrical services in. This is relevant as we will be looking to start the utilities works at the beginning of November which will mean the utility contractors needing to close the pavement outside the Ashley Road part of the site- Picture C shows progress.
Please feel free to share with colleagues, residents and friends who might be interested in site progress.
